COUNTYWIDE : Board to Let Public Comment on Budget

Share

The Board of Supervisors will hear comments from the public at 6 p.m. Monday regarding the county’s 1990-91 budget.

The public testimony segment will follow a full day of budget hearings starting at 9 a.m. The board room is located at the Hall of Administration, 800 S. Victoria Ave., in Ventura.

The board will resume its budget talks after its regularly scheduled meeting at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. And it will continue to hold hearings every day until a final budget is approved.

But much of the work will probably have to be redone after the budgeting deadlock in Sacramento is cleared. If the impasse is not settled by Monday, this will be the first time the county has had to adopt its own budget before the state.

A $680.7-million preliminary proposal for fiscal 1990-91, which the board will use as a basis for its deliberations, may be cut by as much as $5 million if Gov. George Deukmejian can balance the state budget without raising taxes, said Penny Bohannon, the county manager of legislative affairs.
