Placing the Blame for the Condition of Rock ‘n’ Roll

When Jimmy Page toured with the Firm in 1985 and ‘86, he relied exclusively on new material in concert. He had been a member of the 1970s’ most successful band and not once did he play a Led Zeppelin tune in concert during those two years. Calendar responded to his bold creativity by panning both tours viciously and naming two of his albums as Worst Album of the Year.

Now Hilburn begs an outdated collection of pop idols to inject some integrity into their work. His calculations have rock ‘n’ roll dying, unless bloated graying old men like Elton John, Rod Stewart, Elvis Costello and Bruce the Goose produce a new vitality in their music.
