A 14-year-old boy, who reportedly knew how to swim, drowned Friday in his parents’ swimming pool, police reported. No foul play is suspected.

Brea Police Lt. Chester Panique said Jared Rex was found by his brother floating in the pool about 10 p.m. Jared was wearing swim trunks.

The teen-ager’s brother and father called paramedics and tried to revive the victim, who was rushed to Placentia-Linda Community Hospital.

Jared was pronounced dead at 3:57 a.m. Saturday. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

Panique said that he does not know how the drowning occurred but that it did not appear that the youth hit his head or suffered an injury that contributed to his death.

“The drowning was an accident, but we don’t have a detailed report at this time,” Panique said.
