World IN BRIEF : IRAQ : Speaker Threatens Actions Against U.S.

The Speaker of Parliament said Iraq is prepared to retaliate against a U.S. decision to impose economic and trade sanctions against Baghdad. The U.S. Senate voted Friday to cut off $1.2 billion in loan guarantees and to bar the sale of weapons and sensitive technology to Iraq. Speaker Saad Mahdi Saleh warned that Iraq may impose its own sanctions against the United States. He did not specify what actions might be taken.
