Volunteers Sought for Santa Fe Springs Disaster Preparedness Instructions

Share

Fire Chief Robert Wilson is seeking more volunteers for the city’s disaster preparedness program under its Residential Emergency and Disaster Initiative.

Volunteers are especially needed to be block captains.

The City Council authorized the READI program after the October, 1987, Whittier earthquake to help residents be more self-sufficient in emergencies. The training includes orientation, home fire safety, disaster preparedness, radio communication and American Red Cross standard first aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The program has already begun, with resident participation reported good, but more volunteers may register in person at the Fire Department, 11300 Greenstone Ave., or call Karen McCoy at 944-9713.
