Presidential Race Highlights Soccer Meeting

A presidential election--expected to generate a hotly contested three-way race--will be the highlight of the U.S. Soccer Federation’s annual general meeting, beginning today in Orlando, Fla.

The four-day meeting will end Sunday with the election of officers. The presidential election is especially significant, since whoever is elected will preside over the 1994 World Cup, to be held in the United States.

There are three announced candidates for president: current USSF President Werner Fricker, USSF Treasurer Paul Stiehl, and former Clipper president Alan Rothenberg.

The elections are expected to set the agenda for soccer in this country for the next four years.
