A missing 15-year-old tennis star has turned up in Connecticut, and police say it looks as if the girl ran away from home.
Dixie Ching was discovered in a youth shelter after she told a co-worker of her mother’s that she had fled to Connecticut, Oakland Police Sgt. Bob Scurria said today. The girl, who had been missing since Saturday, talked to the co-worker when she called the office to speak to her mother, who was not in, Scurria said.
Friends and other tennis players had indicated that Ching ran away because she was under intense pressure to succeed on the junior tennis circuit. Her parents said they believed she was kidnaped.
