Ousted School Chief’s Problem--She Was Guilty of Excellence
How could it be? Diana Peters resigns her post, and the Huntington Beach City School District loses its voice of reason.
After following this saga between the school board and the teachers’ union, it has become apparent that the board bowed to the political pressure of the union in an election year.
It is a sad day for the students and taxpayers of our city. They are losing the superintendent under whose leadership came national recognition, much improved test scores, the state of California’s most successful partnership between business and the schools, along with a host of other successful programs. All of this and insistence on a balanced budget without sacrificing innovative learning programs.
The taxpayers had a bargain in Peters. They have been ripped off by a board that is more willing to buy out her contract and back down under union pressure than to honor her contract, which they negotiated, and stand up for what they know to be right. What kind of an example is this for our children?
