Egypt Cancels Leave for Troops
Reuters
ALEXANDRIA, Egypt —
The Egyptian government Saturday canceled leave for its armed forces, ordering all officers and soldiers back to their units in response to the Middle East crisis sparked by Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait.
A defense source said, however, that the forces had not yet been put on alert.
Egypt has one of the largest armies in the region, with 320,000 men under arms. Iraq’s army is nearly 1 million, the largest in the Middle East.
