3 Children Unattended in France; Mother Held

FORBACH, France — A judge Sunday jailed a woman who locked three of her children in an apartment for three days with no adult care and only a small amount of food.
Marie-Rose Winterstein, 32, and her boyfriend, Gilbert Risser, 34, were ordered held until a hearing Thursday to determine if they would be prosecuted for depriving minors of proper care.
The couple left their apartment in Forbach, near the French-Belgian border, on Tuesday, taking Winterstein’s 5-year-old son with them. Left behind were Sonia, 12; Natacha, 7, and Michael, 20 months.
