From Times staff and Wire reports

Full electrical power was restored to Knott’s Berry Farm at 12:17 p.m. Sunday after a transformer fire and subsequent power outage Saturday that forced the park to close early. The 10:10 p.m. fire also knocked out power to about 1,800 other customers in the area, but their electricity was restored within 50 minutes, Southern California Edison said. The park was prohibited from restoring power using a new transformer until completing a cleanup of oil from the damaged transformer. Although some guests on a parachute ride were suspended temporarily and had to be brought down manually, no injuries were reported. The fire prompted Knott’s Berry Farm officials to close early Saturday night and offer a “fire sale” admission price of $12 for adults--discounted from the normal $21--when the park reopened at 10 a.m. Sunday, according to park spokesman Stuart Zanville. The cause of the fire in the transformer, located in a remote area of the park, was under investigation. Firefighters doused the flames in about 25 minutes.
