Two men in ski masks robbed a motel clerk and a vacationing couple from Utah who were checking into the motel in Mira Mesa about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
Police said the two robbers, armed with a shotgun, went into the Quality Suites Motel in the 9800 block of Mira Mesa Boulevard and forced the couple to lie down.
They took money from the man’s wallet and the woman’s purse as well as the motel register totaling $540, police spokesman Bill Robinson said. No shots were fired and no one saw the getaway, he said.
Robinson said the crime could be related to Saturday’s shooting of off-duty Huntington Beach policeman Robert Barr in Kearny Mesa.
