Love Flowers Into Marriage 50 Years, Other Spouses Later

Charney Herst and Simon Buchsbaum, who first fell in love 50 years ago, will be married at noon Aug. 18 in a giant sandcastle at Santa Anita Fashion Park in Arcadia.

The Woodland Hills couple won the shopping center’s $25,000 Fantasy Wedding Contest.

The couple had known each other as children and fallen in love as young adults, but their romance was interrupted by family religious prejudices and World War II. They married other spouses, meeting only briefly at high school reunions in New Jersey.

Two years ago, after their marriages were terminated by death and divorce, they rediscovered each other.
