Ex-Planning Official Enters Council Race
Former Anaheim Planning Commissioner Frank E. Feldhaus Jr. filed his candidacy papers for the November City Council race Thursday, becoming one of the last candidates to officially begin campaigning.
Amid a few dozen supporters who gathered at the Civic Center, Feldhaus discussed his plans for a grass roots-style campaign, something of a novelty in Anaheim where City Council campaigns routine cost $100,000.
“I’m trying to run an old-fashioned campaign, without the use of big money and big money interests,” Feldhaus said. “I don’t know how realistic that is, but nothing ventured, nothing gained.”
Also Thursday, Mayor Fred Hunter filed his candidacy papers, becoming the last of seven candidates vying for three open seats on the council. Hunter is running for reelection as mayor against Councilman Irv Pickler.
The filing period closes today, but the city clerk said no other residents have taken out candidacy papers.
