Mary (Liz) Salesky; Crossing Guard
Mary (Liz) Salesky, who worked as a crossing guard in the San Fernando Valley for 27 years, has died in Canoga Park. She was 78.
Mrs. Salesky died Monday of heart failure, following a recent heart attack, said her daughter, Ginny Salesky.
Born Mary Walton in Garretson, S.D., she came to California in 1930. During World War II, she worked at Lockheed Corp. in Burbank installing airplane parts. In 1963, she started work as a crossing guard for the city of Los Angeles.
She worked near various schools in the area, including Shirley Avenue and Melvin Avenue elementary schools in Reseda. She continued working until she suffered a heart attack June 3.
She is survived by her daughter, Ginny Salesky of Atascadero, Calif.; a sister, Margaret Taylor of Camarillo; three nephews and three nieces.
A memorial service is scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Pierce Brothers Meyer-Mitchell Chapel, 5940 Van Nuys Blvd. in Van Nuys. Donations can be made in Mrs. Salesky’s name to the Make-a-Wish Foundation or the Ronald McDonald House in Los Angeles.
