These commercially reborn ‘70s veterans are pop-savvy enough to cover a delicious 1974 crunch-rocker by Roy Wood’s Wizzard, while spicing their zesty if insubstantial originals with lots of tasty Raspberries and Beatles bits. They’re also crass enough to serve up some Foreigner rehash and two radio-ready schlock ballads written by outside hacks. While singer Robin Zander attacks even these with enthusiasm, Cheap Trick’s surrender to marketing pressures gives too much of the band’s own self away.
