A 14-year-old boy who was accidentally shot by a friend last week as they played with a gun died early Monday of his wounds, police said.
The boy, identified as Donnell Arsene, was shot in the head late Thursday with a small-caliber revolver, police said. Arsene and a group of youths were playing with the weapon outside the boy’s home on East 80th Street in South Los Angeles.
Arsene died at 6:05 a.m. Monday at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center, Detective James Harper said. Harper said that while the investigation continues, all indications so far are that the shooting was accidental and no charges will be filed.
“All of the witnesses corroborate each other’s statements,” Harper said.
