Expansion Work Begins on Convention Center
Construction work has begun on a $400-million expansion-renovation project that will double the Los Angeles Convention Center’s exhibit space and make the facility the largest on the West Coast.
“We will be bigger than Anaheim, San Diego, Portland and San Francisco,” spokeswoman Pat Gunness said Monday.
Construction crews are demolishing the convention’s concrete plaza facing Figueroa Street at Pico Boulevard. The project is targeted for completion in mid-1993. The expansion will add 350,000 square feet of exhibit space and 100,000 square feet for meetings.
