Tom Cruise, Julia Roberts Top Star List in College Poll
American college students have named actors Tom Cruise and Julia Roberts as the top stars of the 1990s in a surprising poll that also placed the mega-hit “Batman” among the worst movies of the 1980s.
The Movieline magazine poll of more than 350 college students at 11 universities in 10 states showed distinctive moviegoing tastes.
“We were surprised to see that Harrison Ford and Cher didn’t make it in the top 10,” Movieline Editor Edward Marguiles said today.
“Cruise was an obvious choice, but Roberts seems to have done well mainly since her hit ‘Pretty Woman’ was released just before we did the poll earlier this summer.”
Some of the names rounding out the students’ top 10 male and female stars of the ‘90s were not so predictable.
No. 9 in the female category was Alyssa Milano, the teen star of the hit TV sitcom “Who’s the Boss.” Milano has never starred in a major motion picture.
