Teachers Given Seat on School Board

Moorpark teachers will elect a representative to the school board this fall.
The school board voted Tuesday to allow a teacher representative to sit on the board during public meetings. The teacher will not vote but will be given the opportunity to discuss any item on the agenda except those related to teacher salary negotiations or employee relations, board members decided.
An election will be conducted by the district to select the representative, who will serve on the board for a year.
“I want to get this going as soon as possible,” board member Tom Baldwin said. “As far as I know, we’re the only district in the state to have a teacher representative.”
