Dr. Gary S. Rinzler has been named...

Dr. Gary S. Rinzler has been named medical director of rehabilitation services at San Pedro Peninsula Hospital. The center offers specialized care for strokes, spinal cord and brain injuries, severe pain disorders, and other neurologic and orthopedic problems. Rinzler previously was associate medical director of the Rehabilitation Institute of New Orleans at F. Edward Hebert Hospital. He has also been medical director of the Gulf Coast Regional Spinal Cord Injury Program.

James Heinselman has returned as president of Harbor College. He left that post in early 1989 to serve for 17 months as acting vice chancellor of educational services for the Los Angeles Community College District. Heinselman was given the temporary assignment to help reorganize and decentralize the district’s educational and business services divisions.

Six men and women have been honored by the Black Faculty and Staff Assn. at Los Angeles Harbor College. Nina Simmons, a business administration major from Carson, and Debbie White, a nursing student from San Pedro, received the 1990 Frederick Douglass Scholarship; James M. Rosser, president of Cal State Los Angeles, the 1990 Educational Leadership Award; Harold Daniels, a Harbor College professor of physical education, the Outstanding Faculty Award, and Al Swift of Carson, a technology department tool keeper, the Outstanding Classified Staff Award. A special award was presented posthumously to Nathan Banks, former chairman of the college’s division of physical science and engineering. The award was accepted by Banks’ wife, Davrye.

Kevin M. Peterson of Palos Verdes Estates has been elected president of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Rotary Club, replacing Eric Allan, who will serve as immediate past president. Peterson, South Bay district president for GTE California, is immediate past president of the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce. Also elected to the Rotary board were Gary Tossell, president-elect; John Schuricht, secretary; Linda Elliott, treasurer, and Dr. Ian Jones, vice president for programs. Other new board members are Russ Gagliano, Scott Magee, Tim Dickens, Ben Loughrin, Leo Trujillo, Tom Barnett, Denny Gillard, Allan Colman and Ed Clay.

Irving T. Waaland of Palos Verdes Estates has received the American Defense Preparedness Assn.’s Simon Award for outstanding work in the design and development of advanced weapons systems, in particular the U.S. Air Force’s B-2 (Stealth) bomber. Waaland is vice president and chief designer for Northrop Aircraft Division.
