Tanker Sinks Army Corps of Engineers Barge; 50 Hurt

VENICE, La. — A tanker struck and sank an Army Corps of Engineers living-quarters barge with about 100 people aboard early Thursday, injuring at least 50 people, the Coast Guard reported. The barge, a floating metal platform with a building similar to a motel on top, was tied to a dock on the Mississippi River when it was hit by the empty tanker.
