It seems to me that the taxpayers of the United States should not foot the entire bill for this operation. Since the oil companies benefit so directly from our rescue mission, perhaps they would share the cost with the American taxpayers. Or, at the very least, absorb and not pass along any real or imagined cost of crude oil due to the present situation.
It is manifestly unfair for the taxpayer to pay--while the oil companies profit. A government responsive to the people would roll back and freeze oil prices now.
