COUNTYWIDE : A Case for Cassettes

Share
Researched by: Janice L. Jones / Los Angeles Times

The lowly audio cassette, poor relation to the stars of county library circulation--books, video cassettes and magazines--was in one way the star of 1989 library activity. While books (plus 4%), videos (minus 2%) and magazines (plus 2%) all showed little movement from 1988 to 1989, audio cassettes, once the high-tech option of music software, increased in circulation by 23%.

Cassette circulation rose at all branches of the county public library system with the exception of Garden Grove Regional, where it dropped 7%. The 87% increase at the Costa Mesa Main Branch was the largest branch increase.
