SACRAMENTO — Thirty volunteer communications specialists of the California National Guard have been alerted for a possible call to active duty in the Middle East crisis, a Guard spokesman said Friday.
Public Affairs Maj. Ron Kelly told The Times that 30 members of the 166th Combat Communications Group, headquartered in suburban Sacramento, have responded to a call for volunteers and have been placed on standby.
Kelly said he wanted to emphasize that these are individual members of the group, which has units scattered across the state, and that no California National Guard units as such are involved.
