Desert landscape paintings, pottery colored by seaweed and iridescent jewelry will be among the hundreds of pieces exhibited today at an outdoor art show at Malaga Cove Plaza in Palos Verdes Estates. The exhibition is the first to be organized by the Artists’ Open Group, whose members belong to the Palos Verdes Art Center. The group was founded four years ago to give local artists an opportunity to present their work to the public, said Robin Lee Makowski, a member of the group who is known for her paintings of whales and other marine mammals. “It’s very difficult for the hobbiest or student to exhibit their work,” Makowski said. By contrast, the Open Group welcomes any painter, photographer, sculptor and artist. About 15 artists are exhibiting at this weekend’s show, which opened Saturday and continues today from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission to the show, held on the lawn outside the plaza, is free.
