How to get there: Travelers to Taveuni must first fly to Nadi, Fiji. Air New Zealand and Qantas offer service three times weekly from Los Angeles to Nadi through Honolulu. With 14-day advance purchase, round-trip fare on both airlines through the end of August is $901. From September through November, and March/April, fares rise to $981. High-season cost, December through February, is $1,113. From Nadi, Sunflower Airlines provides same-day round-trip service to Taveuni, including lunch, for $35. From Fiji, call Sunflower Airlines at 73555.

Maravu Plantation, a 54-acre coconut plantation resort across the road from Dive Taveuni, offers individual vales and huts spread over beautiful grounds. There is fine European cuisine as well as excellent Fijian food. Rates range from about $50 per person for a single room to $120 for three people in a room. Meals not included.
