A 31-year-old man convicted of murdering his ex-girlfriend’s fiance was sentenced Monday to a maximum term in state prison of 27 years to life.
Randall D. Larson of Spring Valley was convicted last month in the Sept. 23, 1989, shooting death of Raymond Kist, 51, of Dublin, Calif.
Kist was slain in the parking lot of Allie’s restaurant on East Main Street in El Cajon. After the shooting, Larson turned the gun on himself, but he survived the blast to his chest.
Larson shot Kist in the chest and in the neck the day after Kist had flown from Northern California to visit his fiancee.
Debra Bennett, the woman involved in the love triangle, witnessed the shooting and testified at Larson’s trial. Bennett, who has four children by Larson, testified that she received a letter detailing the plot from Larson the day after the murder.
