VIDEO RENTALS : ‘Miss Daisy’ Driven to the Top

Share

“Driving Miss Daisy,” clearly the most popular rental since it came out three weeks ago, finally drove “War of the Roses” out of the top spot of the Billboard magazine rental chart. “Blaze,” starring Paul Newman as a Southern politician romancing a stripper, is still a hot item in the rental market, moving up three more notches to No. 8. “Blue Steel,” starring Jamie Lee Curtis as a rookie cop being stalked by a killer, is the kind of sexy, violent thriller that usually does big rental-market business. It debuted at No. 14 and could easily crack the Top 10. The bad reviews heaped on “Revenge”--a steamy drama about a romantic triangle--could be offset by the star-power of leading men Kevin Costner and Anthony Quinn. This one debuted at No. 18.

* Cruisomaniacs alert! There’s a new Tom Cruise movie on home video. If you had to name five actors who are the biggest favorites among renters, Cruise would be in there somewhere. His new one, “Born on the Fourth of July,” is a grim drama about paralyzed Vietnam War veteran Ron Kovic that did very well ($69.1 million) at the box-office. It debuted at No. 6 on the rental chart.
