L.A. County Redistricting Put on Hold
The Board of Supervisors has been accused of gerrymandering the boundaries of its districts in a “blatant attempt to hold onto power” at the expense of Latinos, blacks and other minorities.
Now Judge Kenyon has redrawn the district lines first established in 1981. It is predicted that minorities now will have a fair shot at being elected to the board.
So next, all we have to accomplish is to get other U.S. district judges across the state to redraw the district lines for U.S. congressmen, state senators and assemblymen. Democrats for years have maintained a “blatant attempt to hold onto power” by defeating Props. 118 and 119 and by gerrymandering the boundaries for many of these districts. What’s fair for minorities should be fair for Republicans as well.
