John Wayne Travelers Will Pay a Higher Fee for Garage Parking

SANTA ANA — When the new John Wayne Airport terminal opens its doors Sept. 16, short-term travelers who bring cars will have to pay more to park in a garage.
To recover the cost of operating the new garages at the Thomas F. Riley Terminal, county supervisors voted Wednesday to raise the current $12 daily parking rate to $14 per day for the first two days a car is left in the lot.
Longer-term parkers get a break, however: After two days, the daily rate drops to $7; a discount currently is not offered in parking structures that abut the terminal.
For those who just stop long enough to meet a plane, nothing will change. The airport’s $1-per-hour rate remains in effect.
Supervisors also voted Wednesday to levy a $1.75 per-trip fee on limousine services and other commercial vehicles using the airport. Representatives of several services complained but to no avail. The supervisors approved the hike unanimously.
