Restrictions on Hillside Building Near Approval

The Los Angeles City Planning Commission, after 18 months of discussion of new limits on the construction of hillside houses, is expected to approve restrictions less severe than those originally proposed, commissioners said Thursday.

The proposed ordinance, which would affect all hillside areas of the city, would limit the size of new houses and require additional off-street parking spaces for all new homes. It would require fire sprinkler systems and sewer connections for some new houses, depending on their location.

But the ordinance is less restrictive than a version the commission drew up in May that prompted complaints by builders and homeowners.
