Suit Seeks to Restore County Health Cuts
Legal aid attorneys went to court Thursday to force the Board of Supervisors to restore funding to outpatient clinics at five Los Angeles County hospitals. Blaming cutbacks in state aid, supervisors Tuesday had slashed clinic funding by $7.6 million.
A lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court contends that the reductions violate a state requirement for counties to provide adequate health care to the poor.
More than 138,000 patients visits yearly will be eliminated by the cuts according to the suit, which was filed by several legal aid groups.
