Mayfield Moved: Soul singer Curtis Mayfield was transferred Friday from a New York hospital to a spinal center in Georgia less than two weeks after a freak accident left him paralyzed from the neck down. Doctors operated Wednesday to straighten the 48-year-old musician’s spine and set the bones in his neck. Mayfield, who was injured Aug. 13 when a gust of wind sent a lighting tower crashing down on him at an outdoor concert, has regained some movement in his shoulders, a family member said Sunday.
