From Times Wire Services

About 1,400 newly introduced Sunbeam Mixmaster stand mixers are being recalled voluntarily by the manufacturer because they pose a severe electric shock risk, the government said today.

The recall, conducted by Sunbeam Appliance Co. of Milwaukee in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, involves Models 01930 and 01940, both distributed nationwide between February and April of this year. Both stand mixers have chrome-plated housings.

The consumer agency cautions consumers to stop using these mixers immediately and contact Sunbeam. Motors and other electrical components, through shipping, use or handling, may shift and contact the inside of the chrome-plated mixer housing, which could create a risk of severe electric shock to the user, the agency said.

The affected models have the model number and the date code on the nameplate, located between the beater openings on the underside of the mixer housing. The only mixers affected are Models 01930 and 01940 with the following date codes: JPD, JPE, FPB, FPC, MPA, MPB and MPC.

Consumers can call Sunbeam at 1-800-441-7068.
