OXNARD : Ceiling Gives Way to Reveal Theft Suspect

A burglar trying to hide from police in the false ceiling of an Oxnard office building was uncovered Monday when he took a wrong step and fell into the room, authorities said.

Arnold Lopez, 23, of Oxnard was arrested on suspicion of burglary and giving a false name to officers, a jail spokesman said. He was being held on $10,000 bail in the Ventura County Jail, the spokesman said.

Police received a call at 12:40 a.m. from a person who had seen someone throwing a rock through the front glass door of the GTE offices at 801 S. C St., said Sgt. Fred Berry of the Oxnard Police Department.

While police were investigating, which is filled with office equipment and computers, Lopez fell, Berry said.

Lopez was treated at St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. , Berry said.
