SAN CLEMENTE : Recruit Firm to Help Find New Fire Chief

Share

A management recruitment firm was selected Wednesday to help San Clemente find a new fire chief. The City Council voted 4 to 1 to hire Ralph Andersen & Associates of Newport Beach, the company that recruited City Manager Michael T. Parness last year.

The $9,500 contract calls for the search firm to advertise the job, screen applicants and present a list of finalists to Parness, who will choose the new fire chief.

The city is looking for a replacement for Thomas F. Dailey, who resigned recently after holding the position for more than five years. Dailey said he didn’t want to implement changes in the Fire Department suggested in a study prepared by an outside consultant. Dailey is now serving as a consultant for the city.

The council majority favored allowing Andersen & Associates to use its discretion in considering candidates from throughout the United States.

Councilman Thomas Lorch disagreed, saying that the search should concentrate on fire officials who are familiar with firefighting techniques used in Southern California.
