THE SIDELINES : Savard Signs With Canadiens

MONTREAL —
Denis Savard reached agreement today on a contract for three years plus an option year with the Montreal Canadiens.
Savard was acquired June 29 from the Chicago Blackhawks in a trade for defenseman Chris Chelios.
Financial terms of the deal were not released.
Savard last season became the 27th player in NHL history to score 1,000 career points. In 10 seasons with Chicago, the slick center had 351 goals and 662 assists in 836 regular season games, an average of 1.21 points per game.
