COUNTYWIDE : With Military Gone, Blood Shortage Seen
Officials expect the supply of blood in Ventura County to become critically low in September because local military personnel, who are consistent donors, have been deployed to the Middle East.
About 700 additional donors are needed to make up for the anticipated deficit of blood used for transfusions, said Mike Hayward, executive director of United Blood Services.
Next week, the United Blood Services Bloodmobile will visit locations throughout the county.
