CALIFORNIA IN BRIEF : SUNNYVALE : Mayor Enters Plea in Molestation Case
- Share via
Mayor Brian O’Toole has pleaded no contest to one count of felony child molestation and resigned from the Sunnyvale City Council. The mayor had been named in a complaint by the Santa Clara County district’s attorney’s office alleging that he had a relationship with a boy for five years. Sentencing for O’Toole, who made a brief appearance before Municipal Court Judge Peter Stone to enter his no contest plea, will be in December, a court spokesman said. After his court appearance, Stone announced his resignation as mayor, effective immediately. A date for a special election to fill O’Toole’s seat will be set at the Sept. 11 meeting of the council, city spokesman David Vossbrink said.
