The Use of Anti-Racketeering Law to Fight Speeding Tickets
- Share via
The legal profession is never able to understand why it is held in such low regard by the American people.
Lawyer Ernest J. Franceschi Jr. and U.S. District Judge Stephen V. Wilson are prime examples.
On the one hand, here is a lawyer who is either unable or unwilling to obey the law (caught speeding three times), who then files a $60-million lawsuit against Huntington Beach. He is alleging extortion based on the Federal RICO (Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations) Act.
On the other hand, we have a federal judge who has neither the good sense nor the guts to tell Franceschi that he is a scofflaw and a clown and to quit wasting the court’s time.
As I said, the legal profession just can’t figure out why it gets no respect.
