The minutes of the Martyrs Memorial and Museum of the Holocaust from 1977 do not reveal that there was a disagreement with the Wiesenthal Center over Simon Wiesenthal’s promise to lend his name to one or the other institution. There was a controversy over the manner and the reasons that Mr. Wiesenthal suddenly withdrew his acceptance to appear at a Martyrs Memorial benefit.
But that is history. The Martyrs Memorial opened in 1978 and has become a busy and successful teaching museum with a dignified memorial that is respected by colleagues in the field of Holocaust education, museum professionals and the academic community.
