No Opera in the Park: The annual Opera in the Park concert in San Francisco, which has attracted thousands of fans since 1972, has been canceled because of a labor dispute at the San Francisco Opera. On Saturday, the San Francisco Examiner, which sponsors the free event, called off the Sept. 9 concert because of uncertainty over contract talks between the opera and union representatives for the Opera Orchestra. The dispute also threatens the opera’s Sept. 7 season-opening performance of “Pagliacci.” This year’s park concert was to have featured Leona Mitchell, Gino Quilico and Marilyn Mims.
