A Los Angeles Police Department reserve officer was in critical condition Sunday after suffering a heart attack during a foot chase in Pacoima.
Officer Dennis Healy, 29, collapsed about 7:20 p.m. Saturday as he chased a man who appeared to be under the influence of drugs near Van Nuys Boulevard and Ilex Avenue.
Healy’s partner, Officer Fred Torres, said in a report that Healy fell unconscious, suffering from “full cardiac arrest.”
Healy was taken by ambulance to Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills.
Torres and other officers later arrested Porfirio Castro, 18, on charges of resisting arrest.
It was unknown if Healy had a history of heart trouble.
