King Hussein will meet Soviet President Mikhail S. Gorbachev for talks on the Persian Gulf crisis ahead of the U.S.-Soviet summit in Finland this weekend, sources close to the Jordanian government said Sunday.

The sources said the meeting will take place in Moscow before Gorbachev meets President Bush in Helsinki on Sunday. They could not give a specific date.

The king is on an international mission to try to find a diplomatic solution to the gulf crisis. He toured five North African capitals before going on to Madrid and London. He is scheduled to visit Paris and Bonn this week.

King Hussein said in London on Friday that his country is abiding by the U.N. sanctions.
