Norville Announces That She’s Pregnant
“Today” co-host Deborah Norville told viewers today that she’s pregnant and her baby is due March 6.
Norville, who in January became Bryant Gumbel’s co-host on the NBC show, is married to art dealer Karl Wellner.
Norville, 32, didn’t say how long she planned to continue working, or how much time she might take off after her child is born.
Weatherman Willard Scott greeted the news by singing a lullaby and saying, “March 6--do you know what famous American has a birthday on March 7?” Norville correctly guessed that it was Willard Scott. “If he’s baldheaded and overweight, name him Willard,” Scott said.
The “Today” show has been struggling in the morning ratings, and NBC revamped the program in June by adding Joe Garagiola, Faith Daniels and Katie Couric to the team of Norville, Gumbel, Scott and Gene Shalit.
Norville was added to the lineup last summer in a series of changes that led to the departure of co-host Jane Pauley in December.
