Times Mirror Co. announced Tuesday that Richard T. Schlosberg III has been named group vice president-newspapers, and will be responsible for the Los Angeles media company’s Eastern dailies.
Schlosberg, 46, has served as president of the Los Angeles Times since 1988, with responsibilities for circulation, advertising, production, operations and other business functions at the newspaper.
It is “premature” to say whether and when The Times will replace Schlosberg as president, a Times Mirror spokeswoman said. Schlosberg will assume his new post by the end of September, when he also will become chairman of Times Mirror’s newspaper management committee.
Schlosberg joined Times Mirror in 1983, serving as publisher and chief executive of the Denver Post for four years before moving to the Los Angeles Times. From 1980 to 1983, he was senior vice president of Harte-Hanks Communications and president of Harte-Hanks’ newspaper operations.
Times Mirror also announced Tuesday that the duties of Donald F. Wright, senior vice president, will be expanded to include supervision of budget and planning processes, public policy issues and multimedia efforts. He currently is responsible for the company’s broadcast and cable-television groups.
“These changes will enhance Times Mirror’s management strength at a critical time to meet the ongoing challenges of the media environment of the ‘90s,” Times Mirror Chief Executive Robert F. Erburu said in a statement.
