Boise Cascade Corp. said today that it has agreed to sell its Vancouver, Wash., paper mill in the first major step toward dramatically reducing its Pacific Northwest pulp and paper operations.

Appleton Papers Inc., based in Appleton, Wis., will pay about $60 million for the mill and another $12 million for its finished goods inventories in the deal, which should be completed by year’s end.

The mill, employing about 450 workers, has a papermaking capacity of 100,000 tons. The Boise-based wood products company has produced carbonless paper and other business communications papers at the facility.
