Election officials recounted votes Wednesday to fix computer-caused ballot-counting errors in Las Vegas. But no changes were expected in primary races for governor and other statewide elective seats.

Greg Ferraro of the Clark County manager’s office said an election computer broke down with only 14 of the state’s 1,128 precincts left to be counted.

Acting Gov. Bob Miller defeated five little-known Democratic challengers, getting 81% of the vote. His closest opponent was the category “None of These Candidates,” which got 8%.

The “None” category was one of the biggest vote-getters in Tuesday’s primary election.

The category also ran second in the Republican primary for governor, with newcomer Jim Gallaway getting 50% and “None” getting 22%.

Bob Seale, who narrowly escaped death in a Labor Day plane crash that killed his wife, defeated incumbent state Treasurer Ken Santor in the Republican primary.

Seale got 59% of the vote to Santor’s 32%. In the Democratic primary, state Sen. Ray Shaffer won the nomination with 41%. Patrick Fitzpatrick received 30%.

State Sen. Sue Wagner (R-Reno), also injured in the plane crash, easily won her primary for lieutenant governor. The Democratic winner was Jeanne Ireland.

Frankie Sue Del Papa won a bitter Democratic primary for attorney general. Bryan Nelson won the Republican nomination.

Del Papa received 58% despite challenger Leonard Gang’s attacks on her legal experience. Gang finished with 33%. In the Republican primary, Nelson got 56% compared with GOP hopeful Randy Rumph’s 21%--two points less than “None.”
