Officials at Children’s Hospital of Orange County will dedicate a new $11-million clinic and research building today.

The hospital’s 14 guilds, which have pledged $2.5 million for the building, will be honored at the ceremony, which will feature tours of the five-story structure.

The first two floors of the building, containing 14,000 square feet, will serve as clinic space, doubling the number of available treatment rooms.

The general pediatric clinic and 22 specialty clinics serve infants to 18-year-olds and logged more than 51,000 visits during the last fiscal year.

“It will vastly decrease the waiting time,” said hospital spokeswoman Maureen Williams. “We’ve been tremendously overcrowded.”

The new building “will create a whole new atmosphere . . , much more pleasant for the patients, parents and staff,” she said.
